Stoneleaf blends the experience of a large firm with the personal touch of a neighborhood business. With a combined 40+ years of experience in landscape architecture and landscape construction, we have designed and installed thousands of landscape projects of all sizes in Downers Grove and the surrounding communities.
Our design philosophy
“No cookie cutter designs”
We approach every project individually and create a custom plan that considers all elements, from the slope of the ground to the movement of the sun. We work with the home’s layout and choose design styles that will complement its architecture, creating spaces that beautifully connect your home to the outdoors.
“Get it right the first time”
Our design philosophy is to get it right the first time, limiting unnecessary surprises during construction. This is where experience and attention to detail are paramount.
“Listen first, design second”
We always want to meet with the client on-site, listen to their needs, and note any ideas they may have. Do you like an organic, curvilinear layout or are you more drawn to a modern, contemporary look? What plants do you absolutely love and need to have in your yard? Are there certain colors you dislike that we should exclude from the plant palette? The client’s preferences always influence the final design.
The founders
Jeff Johnson
OWNER AND DIRECTOR OF DESIGN & SALES
Jeff is a licensed landscape architect in Illinois with extensive experience in all aspects of residential landscape design. Combining his love of design, building, and the outdoors, Jeff earned his degree in Landscape Architecture from The University of Illinois and went on to work in the residential design field for over two decades before co-founding Stoneleaf. He lives with his family in Downers Grove and is proud to call this community home.
Patrick Cronin
OWNER AND DIRECTOR OF CONSTRUCTION & OPERATIONS
Pat brings a wealth of knowledge in construction to Stoneleaf and has a specialized background in residential landscape construction. Growing up in the Western suburbs, Pat earned his degree in Agricultural Economics from The University of Illinois before racking up nearly two decades of experience in the landscape and construction industries. He co-founded Stoneleaf in Downers Grove, the community where he lives and is raising his family.
